Description

Human SI ELISA Kit

Human SI ELISA kits are used to detect Sucrase Isomaltase (SI) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. SI, or sucrase-isomaltase, is a bifunctional brush border enzyme of the small intestine, produced as a single precursor and cleaved into sucrase and isomaltase subunits that remain associated at the enterocyte surface. It is involved in the final breakdown of dietary starch and sugars. The isomaltase domain hydrolyses the alpha-1,6 glycosidic bonds in isomaltose, and the sucrase domain cleaves the alpha-1,2 linkage in sucrose into glucose and fructose and also contributes to cleavage of the alpha-1,4 bonds in maltose. Congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, a recessive disorder caused by defects in transport, sorting or enzymatic activity, leads to fermentative diarrhoea, abdominal pain and cramps after sugar ingestion. SI is studied in digestive physiology and intestinal disease.
