Description

Human SLC16A7 ELISA Kit

Human SLC16A7 ELISA kits are used to detect Monocarboxylate Transporter 2 (SLC16A7) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. SLC16A7, also called monocarboxylate transporter 2 or MCT2, is a proton-coupled symporter that catalyses the rapid movement of monocarboxylates across the plasma membrane. Its substrates include L-lactate, pyruvate, the ketone bodies acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acetate, and it functions as a dimer in which both subunits work cooperatively. MCT2 has a high affinity for its substrates and is expressed in neurons, the kidney, liver and testis, so it helps neurons to take up lactate released by astrocytes, which supports the astrocyte-neuron lactate shuttle. Altered MCT2 expression has been reported in prostate cancer and other tumours that depend on lactate metabolism, and it is studied in brain energy metabolism and cancer metabolism.
