Description

Human SNCa ELISA Kit

Human SNCa ELISA kits are used to detect Synuclein Alpha (SNCa) in serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid and other biological samples. SNCa, or alpha-synuclein, is a small, intrinsically disordered protein that is highly expressed in neurons and concentrated at presynaptic terminals, and it is also present in red blood cells. In its membrane-bound form it helps regulate synaptic vesicle trafficking, vesicle priming and neurotransmitter release, and it acts as a chaperone that supports assembly of SNARE complexes. Under pathological conditions it misfolds and aggregates into oligomers and fibrils that make up Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites. Mutations or multiplications of the SNCA gene cause familial Parkinson disease, and aggregated alpha-synuclein is a hallmark of Parkinson disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy, so levels and species are studied as biomarkers of synucleinopathies.
