Description

Human ST2 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human ST2 ELISA kits are used to detect Suppression Of Tumorigenicity 2 (ST2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. ST2, encoded by the IL1RL1 gene, is a member of the interleukin-1 receptor family and the receptor for interleukin-33. It exists in two main forms: a transmembrane form, which is expressed on Th2 cells, mast cells, regulatory T cells and other immune cells and signals type 2 immune responses, and a soluble form (sST2) that circulates and acts as a decoy receptor by binding IL-33. In the heart, IL-33 signalling through membrane ST2 has protective effects against fibrosis and hypertrophy, and sST2 blocks this effect. Raised sST2 is associated with heart failure and myocardial infarction and has prognostic value, and it has also been linked to asthma, inflammatory bowel disease and fibrotic conditions.
