Description

Human TFPI ELISA Kit

Human TFPI ELISA kits are used to detect Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor (TFPI) in plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, urine and other biological samples. TFPI is a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor and the main physiological inhibitor of the tissue factor-initiated extrinsic coagulation pathway. It inhibits factor Xa directly and, in a Xa-dependent way, inhibits the factor VIIa-tissue factor complex, presumably by forming a quaternary complex. It is produced mainly by endothelial cells, with a portion bound to the endothelial surface through glycosaminoglycans and a portion circulating in plasma, often associated with lipoproteins, and platelets also store it. Through these actions TFPI has an antithrombotic effect. Low TFPI activity has been associated with a raised risk of thrombosis and with sepsis-related coagulopathy, whereas antibodies that block TFPI are being developed to improve clotting in haemophilia.
