Description

Human THRB ELISA Kit

Human THRB ELISA kits are used to detect Thrombin (THRB) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. THRB, as named here, corresponds to thrombin, a serine protease generated from its precursor prothrombin by factor Xa during blood coagulation. It is the central enzyme of the clotting cascade, converting soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin, activating factors V, VIII, XI and XIII, and activating platelets through protease-activated receptors. Its activity is controlled by antithrombin and heparin cofactor II. Because free thrombin is short-lived, it is often assessed through complexes such as thrombin-antithrombin, whose levels have been associated with thrombosis, disseminated intravascular coagulation and other hypercoagulable states, and thrombin inhibitors are widely used as anticoagulants.
