Description

Human TPC ELISA Kit

Human TPC ELISA kits are used to detect Total protein C (TPC) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Total protein C (TPC) is the combined measure of protein C in the blood, a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein synthesised in the liver as a zymogen. When thrombin binds thrombomodulin on the endothelial surface, helped by the endothelial protein C receptor, protein C is converted to activated protein C. Activated protein C, together with its cofactor protein S, degrades the coagulation factors Va and VIIIa, and so limits clot formation, while also showing anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective effects. Inherited protein C deficiency causes an increased risk of venous thrombosis, and in homozygous newborns purpura fulminans, while acquired deficiency may arise in liver disease, vitamin K deficiency, sepsis and disseminated intravascular coagulation, so TPC is studied in coagulation and thrombosis research.
