Description

Human Transportin 2 / TNPO2 ELISA

TNPO2 (Transportin 2) is a protein-coding gene that functions as a nuclear transport receptor assisting in nuclear protein import. TNPO2 also serves as a receptor for nuclear localisation signals (NLS) in cargo substrates. TNPO2 mediates the docking of the importin/substrate complex to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) by binding to nucleoporin. The complex is then translocated through the nuclear pore by a Ran-dependent mechanism. Here on the nucleoplasmic side of the NPC, Ran binds to the importin, resulting in the dissociated of the importin/substrate complex. The importtn is then exported again, into the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, GTP hydrolysis releases Ran from the importin. Intellectual developmental disorders with hypotonia, impaired speech, and dysmorphic facies are diseases associated with TNPO2. Binding and nuclear localization sequence binding are noted as being associated with TNPO2 in the gene ontology annotations.
