Description

Human UPK2 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human UPK2 ELISA kits are used to detect Uroplakin 2 (UPK2) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. UPK2, also called uroplakin II, is a membrane protein expressed almost exclusively by the terminally differentiated cells of the urothelium that lines the bladder and urinary tract. It is one of the components of the asymmetric unit membrane, a specialised plaque-forming membrane that covers the luminal surface of urothelial cells. Together with other uroplakins, UPK2 is thought to help assemble this membrane, which forms a highly impermeable barrier protecting underlying tissue from urine. Because uroplakin expression is tightly restricted to urothelial lineage cells, UPK2 is used as a marker of urothelial differentiation and has been studied in bladder cancer and in the characterisation of tumours of uncertain origin.
