Description

Human UPP2 ELISA

UPP2 (Uridine Phosphorylase 2) is a protein-coding gene that catalyzes the reversible phosphorylytic cleavage of uridine and deoxyuridine to uracil and ribose- or deoxyribose-1-phosphate. The products of this are then utilised as energy or are used to rescue pyrimidine bases for nucleotide synthesis. UPP2 demonstrates broad substrate specificity and accepts uridine, deoxyuridine, and thymidine along with two pyrimidine nucleoside analogs 5-fluorouridine and 5-fluoro-2(')-deoxyuridine as substrates. 4B is a mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome associated with UPP2. The pyrimidine pathway and the purine pathway are two pathways associated with UPP2. Uridine phosphorylate activity has been noted as being associated with UPP2 in gene ontology annotations. UPP1 is a paralog of UPP2.
