Description

Human UTI ELISA Kit

Human UTI ELISA kits are used to detect Urinary Trypsin Inhibitor (UTI) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, urine and other biological samples. UTI, or urinary trypsin inhibitor, also called bikunin or ulinastatin, is a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor derived from the AMBP precursor protein, which is cleaved to yield alpha-1-microglobulin and bikunin. It is synthesised mainly in the liver and is present in plasma and urine, where it is covalently attached to chondroitin sulfate and forms part of the inter-alpha-inhibitor family of proteins. UTI inhibits trypsin, plasmin, neutrophil elastase and other proteases, thereby dampening inflammation and protecting tissues from protease-mediated damage, and it helps stabilise the extracellular matrix. Levels may rise in inflammatory states and the inhibitor has been studied in sepsis, pancreatitis and ischaemia-reperfusion injury, and as a marker in some cancers.
