Description

Human VC ELISA Kit

Human VC ELISA kits are used to detect Vitamin C (VC) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Vitamin C (VC), or L-ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that most animals synthesise from glucose but which humans, other primates, guinea pigs and some other species cannot make, because they lack the enzyme L-gulonolactone oxidase, so it must be obtained from fruit and vegetables. It is a potent antioxidant that regenerates other antioxidants such as vitamin E, and a cofactor for hydroxylases that stabilise collagen, as well as for enzymes involved in carnitine and catecholamine synthesis. It also enhances absorption of non-haem iron. Deficiency leads to scurvy, which is marked by bleeding gums, poor wound healing and fatigue, and levels are measured in nutrition and oxidative stress research.
