Description

IS ELISA Kit

IS ELISA kits are used to detect serum indoxyl sulfate (IS) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. IS, indoxyl sulfate, is a protein-bound uremic toxin that is formed when gut bacteria metabolise dietary tryptophan to indole, which the liver then hydroxylates and sulfates to give indoxyl sulfate. It is normally excreted by the kidneys through active tubular secretion via organic anion transporters, so it accumulates in the blood when kidney function declines. Because it is strongly bound to albumin, it is poorly removed by conventional dialysis. It induces oxidative stress and inflammation in endothelial, tubular and vascular smooth muscle cells, and it has been associated with progression of chronic kidney disease, vascular calcification, cardiovascular events and mortality. Serum indoxyl sulfate is therefore studied as a marker of renal and gut microbial metabolism.
