Description

Mouse a1M ELISA Kit

Mouse a1M ELISA kits are used to detect Alpha-1-Microglobulin/Bikunin Precursor (a1M) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. a1M, alpha-1-microglobulin, is a small lipocalin protein produced mainly by the liver as part of a precursor, AMBP, which is also cleaved to release the protease inhibitor bikunin. It circulates in free form and bound to IgA, and is found in blood, urine and many tissues. Alpha-1-microglobulin binds heme and other small molecules and acts as a reductase and radical scavenger, giving it antioxidant and tissue-protective properties, including protection of the kidney and placenta. Because the free protein is small, it is filtered by the glomerulus and normally reabsorbed by proximal tubule cells, so increased urinary a1M indicates tubular dysfunction and is used as a marker of kidney injury.
