Description

Mouse AIF ELISA Kit

Mouse AIF ELISA kits are used to detect Apoptosis Inducing Factor (AIF) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. AIF, apoptosis-inducing factor (gene AIFM1), is a flavoprotein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, where it acts as an NADH oxidoreductase and supports respiratory chain biogenesis by controlling the mitochondrial import of CHCHD4. In response to apoptotic stimuli it is released, in part after binding poly-ADP-ribose chains, travels to the nucleus and triggers caspase-independent chromatin condensation and large-scale DNA fragmentation, a process termed parthanatos. In the cytosol it can also inhibit protein synthesis by binding EIF3G. Mutations in the gene cause combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency and X-linked Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy, and AIF release is studied in ischaemic injury, neurodegeneration and cancer.
