Description

Mouse AQP4 ELISA Kit

Mouse AQP4 ELISA kits are used to detect Aquaporin 4 (AQP4) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. AQP4, or aquaporin 4, is a water-specific channel protein that is highly expressed at the end-feet of astrocytes, in the ependyma and at the blood-brain interface, with additional expression in kidney, skeletal muscle and stomach. It plays an important role in brain water homeostasis and is needed for normal water exchange across the blood-brain interface. AQP4 is also involved in glymphatic solute transport, as it is required for normal cerebrospinal fluid influx into the brain along the spaces that surround penetrating arteries, and for the drainage of interstitial fluid. Autoantibodies against AQP4 cause neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder, and variants in its gene have been associated with megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts.
