Description

Mouse AST ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Mouse AST ELISA kits are used to detect Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. AST, also known as aspartate aminotransferase or serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme found in the cytoplasm and mitochondria of many cells, with particularly high activity in liver, heart, skeletal muscle and kidney. It catalyses the reversible transfer of an amino group between aspartate and glutamate, linking amino acid metabolism with the citric acid cycle, and contributes to hepatic glucose synthesis, adipocyte glyceroneogenesis and control of glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter. Because the enzyme leaks into the circulation when cells are damaged, raised AST levels are widely used as an indicator of liver injury and may also be elevated after myocardial or muscle damage.
