Description

Mouse AZU1 ELISA Kit

Mouse AZU1 ELISA kits are used to detect Azurocidin 1 (AZU1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. AZU1, azurocidin, also known as heparin-binding protein (HBP) or cationic antimicrobial protein CAP37, is an inactive serine protease homologue stored in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils and released upon neutrophil activation. It is a glycoprotein with antibacterial activity directed mainly against Gram-negative bacteria, probably because its basic N-terminal half has a strong affinity for lipopolysaccharide. It is also chemotactic for monocytes and fibroblasts, so it may help recruit monocytes in a second wave of inflammation, and it binds heparin. Heparin-binding protein can increase vascular permeability, and raised plasma concentrations have been associated with sepsis, severe infection and organ dysfunction, so it is studied as an early marker of sepsis severity.
