Description

Mouse BAFF/CD257 ELISA Kit

Mouse BAFF/CD257 ELISA kits are used to detect B-Cell Activating Factor (BAFF/CD257) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. BAFF, also called CD257, BLyS or TNFSF13B, is a member of the tumor necrosis factor ligand family and a key survival factor for B cells. It is produced mainly by myeloid cells such as monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells and neutrophils, and by some stromal cells, first as a membrane-bound trimer that can be cleaved to release a soluble form. BAFF binds three receptors, BAFF-R, TACI and BCMA, and supports the maturation, survival and antibody production of B cells, including plasma cell survival. Excess BAFF can allow autoreactive B cells to survive, and increased levels have been associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis. Blocking BAFF is used as a therapeutic strategy in lupus.
