Description

Mouse CASP9 ELISA Kit

Mouse CASP9 ELISA kits are used to detect Caspase 9 (CASP9) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CASP9 is an initiator cysteine protease of the caspase family that sits at the apex of the intrinsic, mitochondria-dependent apoptotic pathway. When it binds Apaf-1 in the apoptosome it becomes active and cleaves and activates the effector caspases caspase-3 and caspase-7, which then dismantle the cell by cleaving substrates such as PARP. It also contributes to apoptosis triggered by DNA damage in an ABL1-dependent manner. A short splice isoform lacks catalytic activity and acts as a dominant-negative inhibitor of the full-length enzyme. Because evasion of apoptosis is a hallmark of cancer and excessive cell death contributes to neurodegeneration and ischaemic injury, caspase-9 abundance and activation are widely monitored in studies of cell death and drug response.
