Description

Mouse CAT ELISA Kit

Mouse CAT ELISA kits are used to detect Catalase (CAT) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CAT (catalase) is a tetrameric heme-containing enzyme found at high levels in peroxisomes, particularly in liver, kidney and red blood cells. It catalyses the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide, generated by peroxisomal oxidases and other metabolic processes, into water and oxygen, thereby protecting cells from the toxic effects of this reactive oxygen species, and it has one of the highest turnover numbers of any enzyme. Catalase has also been reported to promote the growth of several cell types. Reduced activity has been associated with oxidative stress in ageing, diabetes, neurodegeneration and cancer, and a hereditary deficiency known as acatalasemia is characterised by near absence of catalase activity in red cells. Catalase activity is a common measure of antioxidant status.
