Description

Mouse CP ELISA Kit

Mouse CP ELISA kits are used to detect C-Peptide (CP) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CP, or C-peptide, is the 31-amino-acid connecting peptide that links the A and B chains of proinsulin. Within the beta cells of the pancreatic islets, proinsulin is cleaved by prohormone convertases to give insulin and C-peptide, which are then stored in secretory granules and released into the bloodstream in equimolar amounts. Unlike insulin, C-peptide is not extracted by the liver to a significant degree and has a longer half-life, so its level in blood or urine gives a more stable measure of endogenous insulin production. It is used to distinguish type 1 from type 2 diabetes, to assess residual beta cell function, and to investigate hypoglycemia, including insulinoma and factitious insulin use.
