Description

Mouse CYP7A1 ELISA Kit

Mouse CYP7A1 ELISA kits are used to detect Cytochrome P450 7A1 (CYP7A1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CYP7A1 is a liver-specific cytochrome P450 monooxygenase of the endoplasmic reticulum that hydroxylates cholesterol at the 7-alpha position. This reaction is the rate-limiting step in the classical pathway of bile acid biosynthesis, so CYP7A1 is a critical regulatory enzyme in cholesterol catabolism and cholesterol homeostasis. It can also 7-alpha hydroxylate several oxysterols. Its expression is tightly controlled by feedback from bile acids acting through FXR and FGF19 signalling, as well as by nuclear receptors such as LXR and by circadian and hormonal factors. Reduced CYP7A1 activity may lead to elevated cholesterol and has been associated with hypercholesterolaemia and gallstone disease, so the enzyme is studied in lipid metabolism, liver physiology and metabolic disease research.
