Description

Mouse gEP ELISA Kit

Mouse gEP ELISA kits are used to detect Gamma-Endorphin (gEP) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. gEP, gamma-endorphin, is an endogenous opioid peptide of 17 amino acids that corresponds to residues 61 to 77 of beta-lipotropin and so is a fragment of beta-endorphin, derived from the precursor proopiomelanocortin, or POMC. It is produced in the pituitary and in some brain regions through proteolytic processing, and it is thought to be generated by cleavage of beta-endorphin or beta-lipotropin. In contrast to beta-endorphin, gamma-endorphin has little analgesic opioid activity and has been reported to have neuroleptic-like effects on behaviour, learning and memory. Its levels may be altered in psychiatric conditions, and the peptide is studied in neuropeptide biology and endocrine research as part of the POMC peptide family.
