Description

Mouse GIP ELISA Kit

Mouse GIP ELISA kits are used to detect Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide (GIP) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. GIP, or gastric inhibitory polypeptide, is a peptide hormone and incretin released from enteroendocrine K cells of the upper small intestine in response to nutrient ingestion, particularly fat and carbohydrate. It is a potent stimulator of insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner, while being a relatively poor inhibitor of gastric acid secretion despite its original name. Together with GLP-1 it accounts for the incretin effect, in which oral glucose triggers a larger insulin response than intravenous glucose. GIP also acts on adipose tissue and bone. Circulating levels may be altered in obesity, type 2 diabetes and malabsorptive disorders, and the GIP receptor is an established target for metabolic therapies.
