Description

Mouse Glu ELISA Kit

Mouse Glu ELISA kits are used to detect Glutamic Acid (Glu) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Glu, or glutamic acid, exists mainly as its anion glutamate and is one of the twenty proteinogenic amino acids, as well as the principal excitatory neurotransmitter of the vertebrate central nervous system. It is stored in synaptic vesicles, released at synapses, and acts on ionotropic receptors such as NMDA, AMPA and kainate receptors and on metabotropic receptors, supporting learning, memory and synaptic plasticity. Glutamate is also a hub of cellular metabolism, linking amino acid and nitrogen metabolism to the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and it is the precursor of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA and of glutathione. Excess extracellular glutamate causes excitotoxicity, which has been associated with stroke, epilepsy and neurodegenerative disease.
