Description

Mouse PCDH15 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Mouse PCDH15 ELISA kits are used to detect Protocadherin 15 (PCDH15) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PCDH15, or protocadherin 15, is a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein of the cadherin superfamily that is essential for maintaining normal retinal and cochlear function. In the inner ear it is a component of the tip links, the fine filaments that connect adjacent stereocilia of sensory hair cells and gate the mechanotransduction channels in response to sound and head movement, and it is also found in photoreceptors. Mutations in PCDH15 cause Usher syndrome type 1F, which combines congenital profound deafness, vestibular dysfunction and progressive vision loss from retinitis pigmentosa, as well as non-syndromic recessive deafness DFNB23. PCDH15 is therefore a key target in the study of hearing loss and inherited retinal degeneration.
