Description

Mouse PICP ELISA Kit

Mouse PICP ELISA kits are used to detect Procollagen I C-Terminal Propeptide (PICP) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. PICP is the procollagen type I C-terminal propeptide, a globular trimeric fragment cleaved from the C-terminal end of type I procollagen by procollagen C-proteinase as the molecule is converted to collagen. One propeptide is released for each collagen molecule synthesised, so its concentration in the circulation reflects the rate of type I collagen formation, mainly by osteoblasts in bone. PICP is therefore used as a marker of bone formation and collagen synthesis. Levels may be raised in growth, fracture healing, Paget disease and some bone metastases, and in fibrotic disease of the liver or heart, and they may fall in conditions that reduce bone formation, such as glucocorticoid excess.
