Description

Mouse PIGR ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Mouse PIGR ELISA kits are used to detect Polymeric Immunoglobulin Receptor (PIGR) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PIGR (polymeric immunoglobulin receptor) is a transmembrane receptor expressed on mucosal epithelial cells of the gut, airways, mammary gland and other secretory tissues. It binds polymeric IgA and IgM at the basolateral surface and transports them across the cell, after which proteolytic cleavage releases the extracellular portion into secretions as the secretory component. This component anchors secretory IgA to the mucus layer, where it neutralises pathogens, and in its free form it may also act as a non-specific microbial scavenger. PIGR is therefore central to mucosal immunity. Altered PIGR expression and soluble secretory component levels have been reported in inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease and several cancers.
