Description

Mouse PMP22 ELISA Kit

Mouse PMP22 ELISA kits are used to detect Peripheral Myelin Protein 22 (PMP22) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. PMP22, or peripheral myelin protein 22, is a small hydrophobic membrane protein that is produced mainly by Schwann cells and is a component of compact myelin in the peripheral nervous system. It is thought to be involved in myelination and in growth regulation, and it was first identified as growth arrest-specific protein 3. The amount of PMP22 is tightly controlled, because both too much and too little cause disease. A duplication of the gene is the most common cause of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A, a dominant demyelinating neuropathy, while deletion causes hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies, and point mutations cause Dejerine-Sottas syndrome and related forms. PMP22 is therefore studied as a research target in inherited neuropathy.
