Description

Mouse S17aH ELISA Kit

Mouse S17aH ELISA kits are used to detect 17-Alpha-Hydroxylase (S17aH) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. S17aH, encoded by CYP17A1 and also called P450c17, is a bifunctional cytochrome P450 enzyme with 17-alpha hydroxylase and 17,20-lyase activities, found in the endoplasmic reticulum of steroidogenic tissues such as the adrenal cortex, testis and ovary. It hydroxylates pregnenolone and progesterone at the 17-alpha position, which gives precursors of cortisol, and the lyase step then cleaves the C17-C20 bond to form DHEA and androstenedione, which are required for androgen and estrogen synthesis. It also carries out 16-alpha hydroxylation relevant to estriol production. Deficiency causes a form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia with impaired cortisol and sex steroid production, and the enzyme is a drug target in prostate cancer.
