Description

Mouse TRF ELISA Kit

Mouse TRF ELISA kits are used to detect Transferrin (TRF) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. TRF, transferrin, is an abundant plasma glycoprotein synthesized chiefly by the liver that binds up to two ferric iron ions together with a bicarbonate anion. It delivers iron from sites of absorption and haem breakdown to tissues that store or use it, especially developing red blood cells, by docking with the transferrin receptor and entering cells via endocytosis. Transferrin also limits free iron available to invading microbes. Serum levels fall in inflammation and malnutrition, as it is a negative acute-phase protein, and rise in iron deficiency. Inherited atransferrinemia causes iron overload with anaemia, so transferrin is widely measured in studies of iron homeostasis.
