Description

PGH2 ELISA Kit

PGH2 ELISA kits are used to detect Prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. PGH2, or prostaglandin H2, is an unstable endoperoxide intermediate formed from arachidonic acid by the cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, via the intermediate PGG2. It is the common precursor of all the prostanoids, as specific synthases convert it into prostaglandin E2, prostaglandin D2, prostaglandin F2 alpha, prostacyclin and thromboxane A2 according to the enzymes present in the cell. PGH2 has a very short half-life, of about half a minute, and can itself act on the thromboxane receptor to cause platelet aggregation and smooth muscle contraction. Because it is so short-lived, its production is usually inferred from stable downstream products. Altered PGH2 production reflects cyclooxygenase activity, which is raised in inflammation and some cancers and inhibited by aspirin and NSAIDs.
