Description

Pig a1AT ELISA Kit

Pig a1AT ELISA kits are used to detect Alpha-1-Antitrypsin (a1AT) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. a1AT, or alpha-1-antitrypsin (SERPINA1), is the major serine protease inhibitor of plasma, made mainly by hepatocytes and also by monocytes and epithelial cells, and its level rises as part of the acute phase response. Its primary target is neutrophil elastase, so it protects the lower respiratory tract from proteolytic destruction, and it also inhibits trypsin, chymotrypsin, plasmin and thrombin to a lesser degree. Variants such as the Z allele cause misfolding and retention of the protein in the liver, leading to low serum levels in alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, an autosomal recessive disorder that raises the risk of pulmonary emphysema and chronic liver disease, especially in smokers.
