Description

Pig MAP ELISA Kit

Pig MAP ELISA kits are used to detect Major Acute Phase Protein (MAP) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. MAP, the major acute phase protein, is the porcine name for the inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain H4, encoded by ITIH4 and also called pig-MAP. It is a type II acute-phase protein produced mainly by the liver and secreted into the blood, and its concentration rises markedly during inflammatory responses to infection, trauma and tissue injury. It may also play a part in liver development and regeneration. In pigs, serum MAP is a sensitive and stable indicator of systemic inflammation and is used in herd health monitoring, as raised levels have been associated with bacterial and viral infections, stress and post-surgical inflammation. It is therefore applied in veterinary research to assess disease status and animal welfare.
