Proteinase K for nucleic acid extraction

Proteinase K (20 mg/ml) is a high-activity, ready-to-use Proteinase K solution for digesting proteins and inactivating nucleases during nucleic acid extraction. It is broadly active across pH and temperature ranges and remains stable in detergents and denaturants.

Proteinase K is a subtilisin-like serine protease from Tritirachium album Limber with broad substrate specificity. It preferentially cleaves ester and peptide bonds at the C-terminus of hydrophobic, sulfur-containing and aromatic amino acids. The enzyme digests proteins in the presence of various salts, denaturants and detergents, and shows high activity in buffers used for DNA and RNA extraction. It degrades proteins bound to nucleic acids to help release them, and is used mainly for protein digestion during DNA and RNA preparation as well as in many other molecular and cell biology experiments. For research use only.
