Description

PTD ELISA Kit

PTD ELISA kits are used to detect Pentosidine (PTD) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Pentosidine (PTD) is a fluorescent advanced glycation end product that forms a cross-link between lysine and arginine residues in proteins, produced when pentose sugars or ascorbate-derived intermediates react with these amino acids through glycation and oxidation. It accumulates gradually in long-lived proteins such as skin and cartilage collagen, and it is found in plasma, urine and tissue. Because its formation depends on both glycation and oxidative stress, it is used as a marker of cumulative carbonyl stress. Increased levels have been associated with ageing, diabetes and its complications, renal failure, osteoporosis and arthritis, where collagen cross-linking may impair tissue function, making pentosidine a frequent subject of research on tissue ageing and bone quality.
