Description

Rat AFM ELISA Kit

Rat AFM ELISA kits are used to detect Afamin (AFM) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. AFM, afamin, is a plasma glycoprotein of the albumin family, also called alpha-albumin, synthesized mainly by the liver and present in blood, cerebrospinal fluid and follicular fluid. It acts as a carrier for hydrophobic molecules in body fluids, and it binds vitamin E, which it may deliver where the lipoprotein system is insufficient, including across the blood-brain barrier. Afamin is also required for the solubility and signalling activity of lipid-modified Wnt proteins, which links it to developmental and stem cell signalling. Higher afamin concentrations have been associated with features of metabolic syndrome, such as insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia, and with the risk of type 2 diabetes, while changes have also been studied in pregnancy complications and cancer.
