Description

Rat AP ELISA Kit

Rat AP ELISA kits are used to detect Aprotinin (AP) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Aprotinin, also called bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor or BPTI, is a small basic polypeptide of 58 amino acids, stabilized by three disulfide bonds. It is a broad-spectrum competitive inhibitor of serine proteases, including trypsin, chymotrypsin, plasmin and kallikrein, which it binds through a reactive lysine residue to form very stable complexes. By blocking plasmin it prevents the breakdown of fibrin, and it also inhibits the kallikrein-driven contact activation of coagulation, which is why it has been used as an antifibrinolytic in cardiac surgery to limit blood loss. Aprotinin is also widely used in laboratory work to prevent proteolysis in tissue and cell extracts.
