Description

Rat CBG ELISA Kit

Rat CBG ELISA kits are used to detect Corticosteroid Binding Globulin (CBG) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CBG, or corticosteroid-binding globulin (transcortin, SERPINA6), is a glycoprotein of the serpin family made mainly in the liver and is the major transport protein for glucocorticoids and progestins in the blood of almost all vertebrates. It binds most circulating cortisol, so it controls the free, biologically active fraction of the hormone, and cleavage of its reactive loop by neutrophil elastase at sites of inflammation may release cortisol locally. Its concentration rises with oestrogen exposure, as in pregnancy, and falls in severe illness such as sepsis. Hereditary CBG deficiency, a rare disorder, is characterised by reduced binding capacity and low basal cortisol with fatigue and altered blood pressure.
