Description

Rat CKB ELISA Kit

Rat CKB ELISA kits are used to detect Creatine Kinase, Brain (CKB) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. CKB, or brain-type creatine kinase, is a cytosolic enzyme that reversibly transfers a phosphate group between ATP and phosphocreatine, thereby buffering ATP levels in tissues with large and fluctuating energy demands such as brain, smooth muscle, kidney and spermatozoa. It works as a dimer, forming the BB homodimer or combining with the muscle form to give the MB heterodimer, and it supports energy transfer from sites of ATP production to sites of use. CKB is also involved in adaptive thermogenesis in adipose tissue as part of a futile creatine cycle. Because the isoenzyme is released from damaged cells, CK-BB has been studied as an indicator of brain injury, and raised levels have been reported in some tumours.
