Description

Rat CSTA ELISA Kit

Rat CSTA ELISA kits are used to detect Cystatin A (CSTA) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CSTA, or cystatin A, also called stefin A, is a small intracellular thiol proteinase inhibitor that restrains cysteine cathepsins such as cathepsins B, H and L. It is abundant in epithelial cells, particularly in the epidermis, and in neutrophils and other immune cells, where it protects cells from uncontrolled proteolysis. Cystatin A has an important role in desmosome-mediated cell-cell adhesion in the lower layers of the epidermis. Loss-of-function variants cause a form of peeling skin syndrome, with congenital exfoliative ichthyosis and peeling of the skin that is worsened by moisture and minor trauma, and CSTA expression is also studied as a marker in some tumours and inflammatory skin conditions.
