Description

Rat CTSK ELISA Kit

Rat CTSK ELISA kits are used to detect Cathepsin K (CTSK) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CTSK, cathepsin K, is a lysosomal cysteine protease that is expressed most abundantly in osteoclasts, with additional expression in some fibroblasts and thyroid epithelium. It is secreted into the acidic resorption lacuna beneath osteoclasts, where it degrades the collagen and other proteins of the bone matrix, making it a key enzyme in osteoclastic bone resorption. It may also contribute to extracellular matrix degradation more generally and releases thyroid hormone thyroxine by limited proteolysis of thyroglobulin in the thyroid follicle lumen. Loss-of-function variants cause pycnodysostosis, with osteosclerosis, bone fragility and skull and phalangeal deformity. Cathepsin K is a target of drugs for osteoporosis, and its level is studied in bone and joint disease.
