Description

Rat ENK ELISA Kit

Rat ENK ELISA kits are used to detect Enkephalin (ENK) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. ENK, enkephalin, refers to the endogenous opioid pentapeptides Met-enkephalin and Leu-enkephalin, which are cleaved from the precursor proenkephalin. They are produced by neurons in the brain, spinal cord and enteric nervous system and by adrenal chromaffin cells. Enkephalins act mainly on delta and, to a lesser extent, mu opioid receptors to inhibit neurotransmitter release, and they are involved in pain modulation, stress responses, reward and gastrointestinal motility. Because they are degraded within minutes by peptidases, their levels in biological fluids are low and dynamic. Changes in enkephalin or proenkephalin levels have been associated with chronic pain, stress, addiction, and some cardiovascular and renal conditions, so the peptide is studied in neuroscience and pain research.
