Description

Rat HPLA ELISA Kit

Rat HPLA ELISA kits are used to detect p-hydroxyphenyllactic acid (HPLA) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. HPLA, p-hydroxyphenyllactic acid, is an organic acid formed during the metabolism of the amino acid tyrosine, produced by reduction of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid. It is also generated by gut bacteria as a product of microbial aromatic amino acid metabolism, and it circulates in the blood and is excreted in urine. Under normal conditions only small amounts are present, but elevated levels have been associated with disorders of tyrosine metabolism such as tyrosinemia, with liver dysfunction, with vitamin C deficiency and with intestinal bacterial overgrowth. HPLA has also been investigated in relation to oxidative stress and sepsis, and it is of interest in metabolic and gut microbiome research.
