Description

Rat Hyp ELISA Kit

Rat Hyp ELISA kits are used to detect Hydroxyproline (Hyp) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Hydroxyproline (Hyp) is a modified amino acid formed when proline residues within procollagen chains are hydroxylated by prolyl hydroxylase, an enzyme that requires vitamin C. It is found in large amounts in collagen, where it stabilises the triple helix through hydrogen bonding, and is present in far lower quantities in a small number of other proteins. Because it is released when collagen is degraded and is not reused for protein synthesis, hydroxyproline serves as an indicator of collagen content and turnover. Elevated levels in tissue or fluids may reflect increased collagen breakdown or deposition, and the compound is widely used in studies of fibrosis, bone remodelling, wound healing and connective tissue disorders.
