Description

Rat ND1 ELISA Kit

Rat ND1 ELISA kits are used to detect NADH Dehydrogenase 1 (ND1) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. ND1 (also known as MT-ND1) is a hydrophobic subunit of respiratory chain Complex I, encoded by the mitochondrial genome rather than the nuclear genome and embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane. As a core subunit, it is essential for both the catalytic activity and the assembly of Complex I, which transfers electrons from NADH to ubiquinone and helps generate the proton gradient used to make ATP. ND1 is expressed wherever mitochondria are present, with the highest demand in energy-intensive tissues such as brain, heart and muscle. Mutations in MT-ND1 have been associated with mitochondrial disorders, including Leber hereditary optic neuropathy and MELAS-like syndromes, and ND1 is studied as a marker of mitochondrial function.
