Description

Rat NHE1 ELISA Kit

Rat NHE1 ELISA kits are used to detect Sodium/Hydrogen Exchanger 1 (NHE1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. NHE1, encoded by the SLC9A1 gene, is the ubiquitously expressed plasma membrane sodium-hydrogen exchanger. It is an electroneutral antiporter that exports one intracellular proton in exchange for one extracellular sodium ion, driven by the inward sodium gradient, which protects cells from the acidification produced by metabolism. In this way NHE1 helps maintain intracellular pH and cell volume, and it is therefore important for cell growth, proliferation, migration and survival. It can also transport lithium and acts as an anchor for scaffolding complexes that coordinate signalling inputs. Dysregulated NHE1 activity has been associated with cardiac ischaemia-reperfusion injury and with the acidic microenvironment of tumours, and variants cause a recessive syndrome of cerebellar ataxia and hearing loss.
