Description

Rat OXTR ELISA Kit

Rat OXTR ELISA kits are used to detect Oxytocin Receptor (OXTR) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. OXTR is the G protein-coupled receptor for oxytocin, a neuropeptide hormone released from the posterior pituitary that has key roles in social behaviour, labour and lactation. Ligand binding changes the receptor conformation and triggers signalling through G proteins, mainly Gq, which activate phospholipase C and generate the second messengers diacylglycerol and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, leading to a rise in intracellular calcium. The receptor is expressed in the uterus, where it mediates contraction at term, in mammary myoepithelial cells, where it drives milk ejection, and in many brain regions involved in bonding, anxiety and stress. Variation in the OXTR gene and its expression has been studied in relation to autism, social behaviour and mood disorders.
