Description

Rat PF4 ELISA Kit

Rat PF4 ELISA kits are used to detect Platelet Factor 4 (PF4) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. PF4, or platelet factor 4 (CXCL4), is a CXC chemokine that is stored in large amounts in platelet alpha-granules and released during platelet aggregation. It is involved in haematopoiesis, cell proliferation, differentiation and cell activation, and it acts through receptors including CCR1 and the CXCR3 isoforms, with CXCR3A engagement inducing migration of activated T lymphocytes through Ras and ERK signalling. PF4 binds heparin and heparan sulfate with high affinity and so neutralises the anticoagulant effect of heparin, and it also inhibits angiogenesis and promotes the proinflammatory activity of monocytes. Antibodies to PF4-heparin complexes cause heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, and raised PF4 has been associated with platelet activation, thrombosis, atherosclerosis and fibrosis.
